Considering, that OBE's are promoted by relaxation, you have best conditions for body separation in sleep.
A certain category of dream symbols and features of separation processes seem to be related to each other. In this article some typical dream symbols belonging to this category are listed and explained. Persons, who are trained in OBE's very often have such dream (-symbol-) experiences and sometimes become conscious and aware of the separation process, such verifying the interpretation of the dream symbols of this article. Previous articles on this topic are written by J. Puehringer 1) and Bob Lepak 5).
The following report of dream symbols relates to passive body separation type called "floating out of the body", see 2) and 3). The separation process of "floating out of the body" can be described as a vertical lifting of the subtle body. The upwards moving process stops somewhat later and the subtle body sways and rocks above the physical body. A theosophic theory postulates, that the subtle body is tied to the physical body by the silver cord (see Alfred Ballabene citation 4), hindered by the cord to move further away (this causes falling/lifting and rocking).
Phase of loosening:

The subtle body is dissociating about 1 to 3 cm above the physical body. As is postulated in theosophic theory this causes a higher level of dream experiences - the dreams are more colorful, emotional and of good 3D quality. |
Phase of lifting and falling:

In this stage of subtle body separation, a frequent lifting and falling motion is registered. This can last for several minutes. After slow lifting a rapid falling - corresponding to the fact of being pulled back to the physical body - is registered and the impression is transformed to dream actions in which you feel youself falling down. |
Examples of dream symbols for the phase of lifting:
S.: Enclosed in the elevator of a high-riser I can`t get out at the floor wanted. I am unable to press the right button, because the board is chaotic. The movement of the lift changes from very rapid to slow and vice versa. In this chaotic way I move up and down, on and on.
S.: In a dream I saw about 8 to 10 lamps hanging down the ceiling, assembled by long tubes of brass. I took a pleasure in climbing up the tubes and jumping down again. This for many times.
C.: In a sledge I slid up and down the hills with breakneck speed. It was night and nowhere anyone to be seen. I found it romantic and I enjoyed this slide very much.

I keep dreaming about dogs (these now are good dgs and theyre not
dead) but now it involves horses and an Escalator that I feel and
see is broke and Im scared to go in it cause I think it will fall
down. But Im forced to ride the escalator by someone and I see it
doesnt fall. ::) That someone is a strong female person, I have no
idea who tho.
The dream of the escalator is typicaly for lifting and falling down again into the body - thus an OBE pre-state dream.
A horse as well is something what carries you - as dream symbol similar than a "flying dream" and I would relate this to the next step of body loosening = "floating". Of course a horse can have additional dream symbols - its carrying you to somewhere, thus a kind of transport medium which enables you to contact an other territory like astral worlds. (Regard: because your dreams like those you wrote about are vivid and embedded in OBE pre-state sensations they are interpreted as well from this point of view, which interpretation is correct, as I suppose)
In
the previous letter you wrote:
"...Then I remembered I had a dream about dead dogs, bad
dogs, fighting dogs, ..."
Dogs
are associated with watching (watchdog) and thus very often are
associated with your daytime awareness (where you are active and
attentive watching whats around you).
In the special case of Eva there is an additional correlation: Eva
is living in Germany and there the terms "watching" and
"being awake" are identically.
Thus the symbol means that you have at least a bit of daytime
awareness while dreaming.
dead
dog = already existing but still not alive
black dog = already living, but unconscious
fighting dogs = the inner fight between subconscious and daytime
awareness (lucidity) for the leadership.
The interpretation of dream symbols I have done for Eva is done as an exception because of her valuable contributions (for common I refuse to interpret dream symbols)
Phase of swaying:

In this phase, after lifting motion has come to an end, the separation process of the subtle body has stabilised and the double floats above the physical body, swaying horizontally above the physical body. |
Dream examples for the phase of swaying:
T.: With some others I decided to go up a mountain with a cable car. We have serious problems, because a storm makes the cabin sway dangerously. Thus we did not succeed and after a long drive we arrived, got back again where we had started. We now decide to go by foot, but after each attempt to climb the mountain, we slide down again, because the slope is too steep. Again we try to go per cable car. This time we have a calm drive, and we glide above a plain with fantastically bizarre shaped rocks and big crystals.
T.: We drive upwards a steep street. The car jolts, because the road is under construction. Then we drive very fast downwards and we arrive at the sea. A boat is waiting there for us to carry us home. While on course the boat rolls in the violent sea and we try to balance. Thereafter I had a dream in which I was flying around a tree with my feet upwards. I was unable to land.
S.: I am hanging at the end of a rope, which was fastened on a tree, and I am blown horizontally above the stirred water of a river. I am not afraid at all, because I have the ability to control myself in movement.
J.: Fastened with a short rope on the waist, I am hanging down a rocking hang-glider, whose cord is held by the gurus. Looking down everything looks small like toys. At once in a next scene I am in a room, floating underneath the ceiling, my head stuck in the corner between wall and ceiling. In next moment I awoke.

Wind sensation:
Experiences very similar to the blow of wind are registered in a last phase before entering astral state. I am not quite sure how to explain these phenomena. I never have read a satisfactory theoretical approach on this kind of perception, though cool wind sensations often are reported in occultism.
